Connected my monitor to my Mac Mini and this is what I get:
OVER SIZE
RECOMMAND MODE
1280X1024
I have a flat-screen Princeton LCD monitor and using minidisplay to vga adapter.
Is my monitor too old? It's my friend's old one he gave to me, and he said he bought it when flat screen LCD models were still a "new thing."

I have dealt with Apple's warranty service and their "geniuses" on multiple occasions. To sum it up, Apple's employees will try to blame you if even the slightest thing is awry (ie a dent). I even remember hearing about a guy who brought in his PowerBook (in the PPC days) for warranty repair, and Apple denied him service because he had a sticker from an orange on the screen bezel.
I recently got a new hybrid bike (no, it is not partially electric or gasoline, it is 100% leg powered) at Sports Authority (SA for short). It was a big mistake purchasing it there instead of my local bike shop, but that's another story. SA put a Schwinn branded tire on the bike. That wouldn't be a problem if it was a Schwinn bike, and it matched the other tire. But no, my bike is a K2 bike. I took it to SA to replace the tire. Long story short: they made up some story as to why it was supposed to come with a Schwinn tire. They denied that it was even the wrong tire. Meanwhile, I contacted K2, who told me that they don't use Schwinn tires and they would be happy to replace the tires and send me better ones with reflective strips painted on the sidewalls of the tires. This was warranty service at its finest. The manufacturer of the product (the bike) not only sent me out replacement parts for something that their distributor screwed up, but they sent me nicer replacement parts than what the bike originally came with! They also expected me to replace the tires myself. This would have been a problem if I didn't have the tools and expertise to do so, but I had those so it was no problem at all. I don't recall ever having a company send me parts to fix my own product (computer, device, gadget, mechanical device, bicycle, etc).
http://i736.photobucket.com/albums/xx1/igesundheit/IMG_5570.jpg
Edit: forgot to mention that when I purchased the bike, the Schwinn logo was covered up my permanent marker, and I noticed the marker there and cleaned it off to reveal the logo. This means that someone purposely covered it up. The treads on both tires had the same pattern, but the Schwinn branded tire was 38mm wide while the rear tire was 35mm wide (correct to the bike's specs on K2's website).

Take a look at DiskInventory X (http://www.derlien.com/), OmniDiskSweeper (http://www.omnigroup.com/products/omnidisksweeper/), JDisk Report (http://www.jgoodies.com/freeware/jdiskreport/) or GrandPerspective (http://grandperspectiv.sourceforge.net/) to see where your HDD space went to.
Also have a look at Activity Monitor (Applications / Utilities /) and select All Processes and sort by Real Memory to see what the culprit may be.
image below uses sorting by CPU as an example

Then also look at the "System Memory" tab in Activity Monitor and post what it says behind "Page ins", "Page outs" and "Swap used".

Sandy Bridge CPUs officially support only 1333MHz but 1600MHz has been proven to work (not with iMacs yet though).
The HD uses SATA 3Gb/s, that is why the negotiated speed is 3Gb/s.

Hi there
That's dead useful, thank you. I've passed it on.
Is there any way for me to check which serial numbers have been blacklisted?
Best regards, Lycia

it's amazing how quickly things change
just got this imac in aug 2010
and already the connection ports are becoming outdated
truth be told, FW800 is more than adequate
it's a psychological thing
wanting the latest and greatest

Hi
A friend of mine has offered to sell me his macbook pro and i am considering it. However I know very little and have only had dell laptops in the past.
It is a 13'' duo core 2.4gh ddr3 ram with 320gb . He will also give me mac office. He is asking for 800.
Im wondering if this is worth the money as it is the duo core and my Dell has the i7 technology. To be honest I dont even know what this means. I just want a decent laptop that will not be slow and outdated in a year!
I would be using it for work-im a teacher.
Any advice would be great thanks!!

From Terminal you can use the following to find references to where MySQL may be installed, then you can browser there and check the created/modified dates to see if they match with when you were installing.
sudo find / -name "mysql" -print
The command may take a few minutes to complete.

Actually you can accomplish this through Javascript. Take a look here:
http://blog.deconcept.com/code/overflowsafari/overflowsafari.html
It took me a while to get it working thanks to my JS stupidity but it does work.

Does it have to be 1333mhz? what if it's 1600mhz DDR3 memory like this one .. also does it mean higher the mhz the faster the ram?
http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/hyperx_us/partsinfo.asp?root=&ktcpartno=KHX1600C9S3P1K2/8G
I would get the 1333mhz one. In the MacBook Pro, they use 1333 but 1600 was compatible with it. However, I would recommend sticking with a 1333mhz memory set mainly because it honestly doesn't even make a BIG deal.

Today I finally got my Verizon iPhone 4 so I almost immediately went to the Apple store to pick up a Pixelskin HD. I pretty much disregarded the price and got it, along with the matte screen protectors from the store. Later on in the day, my friend shows me the case he has for his iPhone 4 (TPU case from eBay, I believe made by Amzer), and that it was much cheaper than the Pixelskin ($7 vs $30). Would it be better to just return the Pixelskin HD and get a TPU case from eBay? Or is the Pixelskin more worth its bigger price tag? Thanks!

I have an early 2008 Mac Pro.
My drive sometimes won't read discs, I've used it so much. I want to buy a new drive. My question is, do I get a blu ray drive(not BR burner) or get a regular DVD burner, like a superdrive.
The price difference seems to be about $40-$50. What benefit is there to having a blu ray drive. I don't think I'll ever watch a br movie from there. And I dont think I'll want to rip BRs either
Thoughts? Advice?
Thanks
If you do not think that you'll ever watch a blu ray movie or anything from the drive then buying a blu ray drive probably isnt worth your money. I have just one blu ray drive, a PS3, and I rarely use it.
Get the superdrive.

Well I need to raise money for a trip to Namibia in to help children, improve their schooling and trek the 2nd largest canyon in the world. This comes to 3000. Well I'm 16, and people aren't willing to hire me much. I live in a block of flats (apartments if you will) and I'm think of getting a descent speed internet line and setting up a wireless network. The apartments are new, 5 floors, I'm the top one. What sort of coverage can I expect to get through all these walls with 30 apartments, I will be hosting it off my Powermac, what basestation, does the airport really get the best reception?
Feel free to donate I NEED it BAD! I can give you details about that, I'll even provide you with an update on what's going on with our group, pictures until the day, the 3 week stay, and the return.
Any suggestions on hardware? Cards for pcs, and what os's they will work on?
